Illinois COVID-19 Update: State to Enter Phase 5 on June 11

As the state continues to make progress against COVID-19, Governor JB Pritzker's administration announced that Illinois will enter Phase 5 of its Restore Illinois plan on Friday, June 11. This marks a significant milestone in the state's efforts to defeat the virus and fully reopen its economy.

According to recent data, Illinois is averaging 586 new cases per day over the past week, down 59% from two weeks ago. Local governments also retain the authority to impose stricter restrictions if needed, although Mayor Lori Lightfoot has announced that Chicago will enter Phase 5 along with the rest of the state on June 11.

The governor's office has emphasized the importance of continued caution, urging residents to remain vigilant in their efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
